I began playing the piano in 1978. I was trained classically and competed and performed all throughout my childhood. I received my bachelor of music degree in piano performance in 2002 from CU Boulder, where I studied with Doris Lehnert, Robert Spillman, and David Korevaar. I earned several awards and scholarships during my undergraduate years. In 2000 I began studying in the jazz tradition as well as classical. I went on to earn a Master's degree in jazz performance and pedagogy, also from CU Boulder. I studied with Grammy Award-winning, John "Chip" Stephens, and Pat Bianchi. Guest artist such as Winton Marsalis, Randy Brecker, John McNeil, and Conrad Herwig performed with us and gave classes for us. I have since been part of many bands, combos, and other musical projects. Performance music has brought me to Germany, Italy, Alaska, New York, San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, and many other venues across the US. From 2005 to 2008, I was the keyboardist in The Motet, which has given me the opportunity to play at many festivals and prominent venues, including Red Rocks in Morrison, CO. We have performed with Blues Traveler, The Wallflowers, Christian McBride, Bill Evans, members of String Cheese Incident, Zilla, EOTO and many others. In 2010 I released my first album, entitled "Triple Leaf" on the Dazzle Recordings label. My band, Adam Revell & Essence Rider, performs in the Denver Metro area. I also do much work as a freelance jazz pianist, producer, and composer.
